Adult cancer patients and parents of younger cancer patients have little information about fertility preservation: a survey of knowledge and attitude

Abstract Background Impaired fertility is one of the side effects effective cancer therapy. Saving potential or storing material to enable people have biological children after treatment can be high importance many survivors. Therefore, we designed a study determine knowledge and attitudes preservation (FP) in adult patients parents with cancer. Participants who completed this survey were convenience sample 384 < 18 years ≥ from two large referral hospitals. A 25-item self-administered questionnaire measured FP. Responses yes/no, on 4-point Likert scale (greatly, usually, rarely, never) scored 1 for never 4 greatly. Results Most most unaware FP methods embryo cryopreservation (96.3% 88.4%, respectively) sperm (97.5% 89.0%, respectively). Attitudes among use options, based scale, determined by financial cost, lack access information options. Conclusion Of concern Iranian their that risk associated therapy options was generally poor, particularly parents. To make best decisions about using services, oncologists specialists should discuss during consultation.
